women's health

STIs
According to the World Health Organisation, more than 1 million curable STIs are acquired every day. These can cause pregnancy complications, infertility, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and increase the risk of certain types of cancer. ALWAYS keep yourself safe; make decisions that feel right and comfortable for you and use protection where possible. If you think you might have an STI, ICash in Cambridge is our local STI testing centre and we should be keeping a stock of testing kits in the JCR too. Below is a link to further information on common STI symptoms on the NHS website. If you're concerned or need more advice on maintaining your sexual or reproductive health see your GP.
period tips
• hygienewear comfy, breathable clothing; everyone's too busy thinking about their own outfit to care about your pyjamas
use unscented sanitary products or even reusable pads or a diva cup (which we're hoping to try to fund in college!)
change your tampon regularly DON'T RISK YOUR HEALTH• diet and exercisereduce caffeine, avoid salt, but treat yourself a bit obvs
DRINK SOME WATER
I've heard turmeric can help???
a bit of exercise can help with pain but it doesn't have to be intense especially if you're tired... five laps (walking) around Benson court?... or come to netball :)• plan aheadalways have a spare pair of ugly knickers and some sanitary products (squished at the bottom of your bag, shoved in coat pockets, under your mattress, in the communal fridge, etc)
use a tracker app• sleepif you suffer from bad periods you WILL be more tired than usual, allow yourself to rest, and you can cram at the end of term• for paintry ibuprofen and paracetamol, both are anti-inflammatory and even if they do nothing sometimes you can gaslight yourself into thinking they do
get a heating pad or hot water bottle or even better one of those heatable teddies full of beans or something— they have a cute face and usually are lavender scented so it's 10x better
take a HOT shower
do some bed yoga i.e. a shoulder stand of sorts (tried and tested by me- not doing a risk assessment on this)
talk to a doctor, they can suggest medication or birth control that might help and can make sure that nothing's out of the ordinary!
go to fitzbillies
breast cancer
A breast lump or mass can be a possible sign of breast cancer but so can changes to the skin around the breast. This includes dimpling, swelling, colour changes and nipple discharge.
Below is a helpful and thorough page by Natural Cycles that I'd encourage you to read!
